“Will you be my girlfriend?”
The boys (including Amy) are at the comic book store. Wolowitz, Raj and Leonard are debating the merits of buying a expansion pack for the Mystic Warlords of Ka’a (Wild West Edition… weird.) Stuart approaches them in the midst of their debate and asks what the deal is between Amy and Sheldon, you see, he wants to ask her out on a date. Leonard tells him that he will talk Sheldon, and Stuart convinces them all to buy the Expansion Pack.
Later that night, Leonard makes sure it’s ok if Stuart asks Amy out. Sheldon says that it’s alright yet you can see that he’s torn about it (Sheldon is evolving!). Sheldon thinks that Amy would have no interest in Stuart and that she will turn him down. So imagine his surprise when she actually agrees to go on a date with him. It bothers Sheldon so much that he even goes so far as to ask Penny out on a date. Luckily Penny has her wits about her (and she just happens to be sober, could you imagine what might have happened if she were drunk? I mean, she did sleep with Raj (sort of) when she was drunk… I’m not saying it would go that far but it would have been interesting.)
Cut to Amy and Stuart at the movie. Stuart tells Amy that she can leave if she’s bored, he would understand. (Alright, someone explain to me what happened to Stuart’s game. Remember when he asked Penny out? He was so smooth. Now, he’s jittery and self deprecating. I don’t like it). Cue Sheldon showing up and interrupting the whole thing. He says he wants to change the paradigm of their relationship and asks her the question we have all been wanting him to ask her since she came on the show “will you be my girlfriend?” to which Amy replies Yes and the fans around the world cheer!
As Stuart is dropping off Amy at her apartment, Sheldon waits impatiently inside (and even goes so far as to interrupt their saying good night to eachother). Once inside, Sheldon informs Amy that he took the liberty of drawing up a “Relationship Aggreement.” And nobody is surprised by this move, although I was surprised when Amy called it romantic. She signs, even though she is hesitant.
Cut to Penny’s apartment where the girls are playing Twister. Penny’s drinking, Sheldon knocks on the door. He has a splinter and according to the Relationship Agreement, Amy has to take care of “ouchies and boo boos.”
There is also a whole understory about Penny being drunk. It made me feel really bad for Penny. I think that seeing Sheldon/Amy and Wolowitz/Bernadette happy (or as happy as s/a could be) is really getting to her. I don’t like it and I’m hoping that Penny and Leonard will get back together soon (100th episode maybe? I hope so.)
Howard: “It’s amazing people keep coming to comic book stores instead of just downloading comics digitally.” Leonard: “It’s probably for the best. For a lot of these guys, the weekly trip here is the only chance their mom has to go down to the basement to change their sheets.” Howard: “Oh, that reminds me, I get fresh sheets tonight. Yay!”
Stuart: “Can I help you find anything?” Amy: “A comic that doesn’t depict a woman whose bosom can’t be used as a flotation device.”
Bernadette: “I’m too small for Twister. And, roller coasters. And sitting with my feet on the floor. Hope you enjoyed the prenatal cigarettes, Mom.”
Bernadette: “Doesn’t he know you have a boyfriend?” Penny: “Oh, she doesn’t have a boyfriend; she has a Sheldon.”
Penny: “I call everyone sweetie.” Sheldon: “You tramp!”
(Sheldong knocks on Penny’s door three times) Penny: “Who do we love?” Sheldon: “Penny (knocks three times).” Penny: “Who do we love?” Sheldon: “Penny (knocks three times)” Penny: “Who do we love?” Sheldon: “Penny.”
Overall Grade: A. LOVED this episode! I cannot wait to see how this whole Sheldon/Amy relationship evolves. And I love the consistency. The “Relationship Agreement,” you just know that we are going to hear SO much about this and I can’t wait to find out what those 31 pages entail. I just don’t like where the Penny storyline is going right now. It is apparent from the episode that Penny probably has a drinking problem. I don’t know if it’s just the Leonard situation that’s upsetting her or if she is depressed about her career or what but it bums me out. I like sarcastic/funny Penny, not drunk off her ass Penny.
