Can I just say something before I start? I hate ‘The Mentalist,’ I really, REALLY do (sorry if I offend anybody). Why couldn’t this have been named after something ‘Psych’ related huh? Just saying…
Sam is still all pissed off at Dean because of the whole Amy thing but somehow through the magic of television the boys end up in the same town: Lily Dale. Lily Dale is known for it’s psychics and mystical powers and all of the hoodoo stuff. Why are the boys there you ask? Oh, well because some fake psychic got stabbed in the neck by a Ouija Board of all things. The boys set aside their differences in order to get the case solved, and we’re off!
The boys sleuth around and end up at Melanie’s house, who happens to be the granddaughter of the victim. They discover that all of the people being murdered in the town just happen to be the top (fake) psychics in the town. Uh oh.
The victims are also getting visions of their death beforehand which is just plain creepy. The boys are reviewing some security footage when they discover the ghost/spirit of Kate with her sister Margaret, who it turns out, are two of the founders of the town.
Anyway, to make a long story short (actually it wasn’t that hard, it was a pretty straightforward episode), it’s Margaret that’s killing people who is being controlled by the owner of the emporium. Why? Because the owner is an actual psychic and is pissed off at all the fakes. Sam finds the bones of Margaret in the owners bed (which is weird and disturbing) and burns them before Margaret is able to chock Melanie to death.
In the end, Sam ends up forgiving Dean and the two drive off. Onto their next mission.
Waiter: “You’re a viral manifestation of the divine.” Dean: “What the hell did he say to me?”
Psychic guy: “Tomorrow… you’re looking for something.” Dean: “You’re good.”
Dean (to the waiter): “If you affirmate me, I’m going to punch you in the face.”
Dean: “I think it’s reasonable to want to know you’re off the freaking high dive, Sam. You almost got us both killed. So you can be pissed all you want but quit being a bitch!”
Overall Grade: C. I wasn’t thrilled with this episode as a whole. I hate filler episodes of “Supernatural,” you know, the ones that don’t add anything to the storyline and that’s what this one felt like to me. There was no Leviathan, no growth or development. Oh! And Sam forgave Dean WAY to easily. He lied to him and broke his trust, but ya, don’t worry about it, it’s fine?! No. If that had been me, I would have been angry for so much longer. Nobody pisses you off like family… nobody.
