So Sheldon cuddles now…
Bernadette is in search of the perfect bridesmaids dress but has yet to have any luck. Amy offers up bridesmaids dresses from a bridal party she was going to be in where all the bridesmaids died… and they have capped sleeves! The Horror!
So Bernadette and Penny go out looking at bridesmaids dresses… without Amy. And in an unexpected emotional scene that I was definitely not expecting from Amy Farrah Fowler, she breaks down in tears while playing the harp in her apartment. Sheldon becomes increasingly worried when he can’t get a hold of Amy. Ok, first of all, Sheldon worried about another human being besides himself is shocking enough… when it’s a WOMAN its even more shocking.
Sheldon goes to Amy’s apartment to make sure that she is ok. Amy tells Sheldon that she is upset and craving human contact. The two bargain about how to handle the situation when Amy ends the bargaining by saying cuddling is her final offer. Sheldon complies and it is the most awkward lead up to the cuddle that I have ever seen. It is very reminiscent of the first time Sheldon hugged Penny. This interaction was the shocking part number two for the night. Since when does Sheldon care about the comfort and happiness of anyone besides himself? (BTW: All you people that were complaining that Sheldon seemed to have regressed in “The Rhinitis Revelation.” Are you happy now? He has definitely grown emotionally.)
Anyway, the Sheldon cuddlefest didn’t seem to work so much and Amy ends up getting drunk in a parking lot, calling Sheldon to come and pick her up. When they do, Amy’s got a bottle of wine and is plastered. Sheldon and Leonard take her home.
The next day, Amy is hungover at her lab when Bernadette and Penny come to visit her. They apologize for leaving her out of the wedding dress shopping and Bernadette asks Amy to be the Maid of Honor. AWE! Yay! Amy readily accepts and the besties are besties again!
Sheldon: “New topic. Women: Delightfully mysterious or bat-crap crazy?”
Sheldon: “I can’t seem to get in touch with Amy. I tried e-mail, video chat, tweeting her, posting on her Facebook wall, texting her, nothing.” Leonard: “Did you try calling her on the telephone?” Sheldon: “The telephone. You know, Leonard, in your own simple way, you may be the wisest of us all.”
Amy: “Sheldon, sometimes you forget: I’m a lady, and with that comes an estrogen-fueled need to page through thick glossy magazines that make me hate my body.” ( Oh Amy, you hit that one right on the head didn’t you?)
Leonard: “Why do I have to talk to Penny? She’s not my girlfriend.” Sheldon: “You invited her to lunch four years ago, everything about her is on you. You make it so!”
And my favorite:
Sheldon: “Last night, I was strong-armed into an evening of harp music and spooning with an emotional Amy Farrah Fowler. This on a night that I had originally designated for solving the space-time geometry in higher-spin gravity and building my Lego Death Star. Any why? Your gal pals, Penny and Bernadette, went out shopping for some wedding nonsense without Amy. An action they took with no thought or regard as to how it would affect me, the future of string theory, or my Lego fun time!”
Overall Grade: A. I LOVED this episode. The interaction between Amy and Sheldon was absolutely fantastic. It just went to show how much Sheldon truly cared for Amy when he went out of his way to make sure that she was alright. I can’t wait for the day when Sheldon has enough growth to realize that he is totally and completely in what we here mere mortals call “love” with her. It is going to be one of the most epic things we have ever witnessed on the show. Maybe the 100th episode?
