Look FOX… I understand you had to show that baseball game, or whatever, but “New Girl” is too awesome of a show for it to be gone for a whole month… I missed Jess!
So Jess talks during movies… no. Just, no.
Anyway, Nick has a date (no!) with Lake Bell, who just is way too overly ironic for everyone’s good. He is discussing the date with Schmidt (does anyone else want to say “SCHMIDTY!” every time they hear his name? No, just me? Damn…) when Jess decides to pop in an offer him some advice… which doesn’t exactly help when she mentions that he has a belly… where he stores all his cookies (ok, first of all.. Nick? Frakin adorable… no question.) Nick goes into his room to try and boost his self esteem by getting naked and dancing around. Cue Jess walking in and releasing the most awkward (awesome) scream/giggle of all time. Needless to say Nick’s “self esteem” is deflated.
Jess goes to Winston and Schmidt (SCHMIDTY!!!… sorry) to confess what just happened. They are horrified. Nick walks out of his room wearing a hoodie trying to sneak past and Jess confronts him asking if he wants to talk about what just happened. Nope! Out goes Nick. Awkward…
Oh, and Schmidt is upset because he’s the only one who hasn’t seen Nick’s “self esteem” (see what I did there?). Why? Because he’s Nick’s best friend of course and best friends need to know the intimate details of each other’s “self esteem” apparently. (Ya, I don’t get Schmidt’s weird reasoning either.)
So Nick goes out on his date with Ironic Lake and they end up back at her apartment, only Nick is too self conscience to get undressed so they spend the night in an extremely awkward cuddle.
The next morning Nick returns to the apartment and Jess tries to make amends by trying to make Nick talk about his feelings using a feelings stick (spirit stick anyone… no… fail!). She tries several times to get away from Jess, finally just running away from her… literally. Jess tells him that she wants to have a mature conversation with him but he explains that it’s hard to have a mature conversation with someone who can’t even say penis.
Winston has been depressed this whole time because he can’t do the “chit-chat” part of a job interview because he has been out of the country for so long. Schmidt tries to help by taking him on a run to clear his head and ends up falling down with his legs sore (oh Schmidty…). What I loved about this whole part was that Schmidt was wearing the tiniest shorts imaginable and yet Winston never said a thing… one wrong move and we would have seen Schmidt’s “self esteem” (HA!).
Anyway, Jess goes to her friend Cece to ask what she should do to make it right with Nick. Cece says that since Jess saw Nick naked, he should get to see her naked. Cue Jess going into Nick’s room in a towel and waiting for him. Problem is Nick worked up the courage to tell Ironic Lake about his problems and the two are currently headed that way in a pretty steamy make out session. Jess hides behind the bed and tries to escape, but Nick see’s her when he bends down to take off his boxers (whoops!). He screams, Jess screams, Ironic Lake screams and Jess bolts for the door… but her towel falls off in the process.
Cut to the next scene where Nick is explaining about doors and knocking… The feeling stick gets passed around some more (I love that the guys are now using the feeling stick). Schmidt still wants to see Nicks penis… Winston thinks Nick should show Schmidt his penis… Nick gets frustrated and leaves.
Later that night, Jess knocks excessively on Nicks door. She tells him that she’s been working on something. Jess: “penis.” Nick smiles his adorable smile (seriously, love him) and accepts her apology. Jess asks him if she saw her whole naked self. Nick smiles and says yup. And that smile on his face says it all. I’m still rooting for these two to get together. Ness all the way!
The last scene is of Nick about to get in the shower an kicking Schmidt OUT of the shower… seriously, Schmidty…
Schmidt: “Just suck in your gut.” Nick: “What gut?” Jess: “The little pooch where you keep your extra cookies.”
Schmidt: “Sum up the last two years. The country’s broke… Betty White’s back.”
Jess: “I saw Nick’s pee pee… and his bubbles.”
Overall Grade: A. Really enjoyed this episode. I thought it brought the right amount of hilarity and heart to the screen. Plus any Nick/Jess interaction is great. I love watching the two of them together on screen. They have great chemistry.
