Why “Glee…” WHY?!
So there’s this adorable new kid named Rory… and I mean physically adorable, otherwise I found him extremely irritating and tiring. You want to make friends kid? How about not indulging in Brittany’s fantasy about you being a leprauchaun in order to get her “pot of gold.” Brittany thinks that only she can see Rory which really pisses Santana off. She tells him to back off or else she’ll tell his secret. Oh, and she wants a wish from him… she wants Santana to leave New Directions and come join Shelby’s glee club, which Rory gets her to do.
This whole time Finn is spying on Santana and Brittany in order to figure out if they are loyal to New Directions, which they’re not. Shocker! Of course Santana isn’t, are you kidding me? Have we not learned anything about her character since the beginning of the series? Anyway, since Rory is a foreign exchange student currently living at Brittany’s house, Finn has him spy on her as well. Rory is the one that reports that Brittany and Santana are leaving New Directions. Finn get Rory to join ND.
Quinn. I really don’t like you. At all. Quinn is on a mission to get her daughter Beth back from Shelby, and I mean seriously, who would give a kid to this girl? Really? Yes, an unwed teen who is probably flunking high school, has no means to support a child, and willingly gave up her daughter in the first place is going to get her back from a perfectly capable woman who is willing and able to take care of her. Ya, I don’t buy it. Quinn tries to sabotage Shelby by calling CPS and placing things all around Shelby’s house that would make her look like an unfit mother. Puck gets a conscience and removes them all. He even helps Shelby put a grumpy Beth to sleep. My only problem is the kiss between Shelby and Puck at the end… WTF! I understand heat of the moment, but Puck is the same age as Shelby’s other daughter… Rachel. HE IS OLD ENOUGH TO BE YOUR TEENAGE SON! EWW! NO!
Is Burt Hummel the best father ever? Probably. Burt is sick of Sue’s whole “down with the arts” campaign. He believes that the arts help promote children’s creativity and allow them to express themselves so he is now challenging her on a pro-art platform. Suck it Sue! But wait… Sue is definetly not out… she still wants to bring down the arts but now she’s going to run on a platform of “we need to help advance the well being and education” of special needs individuals. Touché Sue… Touché…
The music… what is Glee without the music? “Last Friday Night” was fun… and I love any and all things Darren Criss so I loved it. I thought it was awesome (although I did find it weird that Finn was up there singing and dancing after being pissy at Blaine for pretty much the entire episode.) “Canyman” was… well it was what it was. Santana, Brittany and Mercedes are no Cristina Aguilera, but it was… cute? I don’t know, but I do want those outfits. “It Ain’t Easy Being Green” and “Take Care of Yourself” were a no go for me… can Rory just stand there and look cute? Just for an episode? He doesn’t need to talk or do anything except stand there… alright? Done. “Waiting for a Girl Like You” was a little creepy to me… I want to believe that Puck was singing it to Beth (his daughter) but I was struggling… I just think the whole “you’re my daughters adopted parent but I think I’m falling in love you thing” is creepy… anyone else?
Kurt: “She could have a field day with this whole gay son thing.” Burt: “I’m proud of you, Kurt. Don’t care who knows it.”
Santana: “I want to talk about the thing that we never talk about.” Brittany: “That Sour Patch Kids are just Gummy Bears that have turned to drugs?”
Sue: “If this nation wants to impress their future Chinese overlords, we need to get our priorities straight.”
Will: “Sue’s pom-pom budget is $4,000/month!” Sue: “You can’t put a price on cheer, William.”
Brittany: “You cannot call your future president an idiot. It mean, and it’s bullying and I won’t accept it.”
Overall Grade: C-, and I think that’s being generous. I just wasn’t at all impressed with this episode. Rory popped out of nowhere, Quinn is being a total bitch and the whole Shelby/Puck thing felt wrong… so incredibly wrong. The only ONLY bright spot for me was when Burt stood up to Sue. Go Burt!
