There’s really not much I can say about this episode.
The study group is forced to pair up with people they don’t know which means that of course they are going to go to the professor and ask him to allow them to ditch their partners and team up with someone else in the study group, which the professor allows.
Then bad things happen. Abed is partnered with Troy and they quickly realize that they spend far too much time together and have nothing to talk about. Britta is partnered with Shirley who won’t shut up about her kid. Jeff is partnered with Annie who is worried that she is going to have to carry Jeff the whole semester. Which leaves Pierce partnered with Afro Todd who is a sweet caring guy who never takes offense (which obviously means that the study group must destroy him.)
The study group quickly gets on each other’s nerves and decides that they must switch partners. But how? Enter Abed who devises an algorithm based off of everyone’s popularity. Immediately everyone is upset and bitching about how they got ranked and why they aren’t the most popular one in the group. Jeff takes the most offence and being ranked #4 and demands to see the ballots which leads to Britta burning the papers and throwing them in a can that contained the turtle that Afro Todd found (ya, Afro Todd found a turtle… don’t ask). This led to the best line of the whole thing:
“Your love is weird! And toxic! And it destroys everything it touches!” – Afro Todd
Naturally the study group doesn’t finish their assignment and is forced to take a failing grade. Cue Annie falling off of her chair in shock.
Meanwhile, Chang gets involved in this whole film noir crime scene thing that I didn’t find the least bit funny. I miss Senor Chang… really bad. At least he amused me. This new Chang I just find boring and irrelevant to the plot of the show.
Overall, this episode to me felt like a filler episode, a way for the creators to get to the next plot. It had a couple of funny moments, but it just didn’t do anything for me. Last weeks episode “Geography of Global Conflict” had a lot more to offer the audience. (Annie and Jeff = JUST DO IT ALREADY!)
“What happened to Legos? They used to be so simple.”
“Oh my god, how did this happen?… And did I miss the firemen?”
“What? I just lost three followers?” (as a Twitter obsessed nerd, I definitely snorted at that line)
Grade = C. It wasn’t the worst thing that I’ve ever seen (by a long shot) but it definitely didn’t do much for me… which is a shame. I usually love Community.
Next new episode of Community airs on October 13th at 8pm on NBC
